As currently nothing special is happening around LPC (except for our tutor desert night tomorrow evening!), I decided to introduce you to this wonderful blog called the Hong Kong Expattery, or simply Cantomemes. The tumblr blog is filled with small anecdotes about life in Hong Kong; most jokes will be a little more difficult to understand for ‘outsiders’, but I think you can still get a very good idea of the small details of life in Hong Kong. Some of my personal favorites include
- “How I picture some HKers trying to decide on an English name” (because you won’t only meet ‘Michelle’s and ‘John’s around here…)
- “When I go outside on polluted days” (because you can literally not go for an outside run without endangering your own life)
- “When I go to Mong Kok on a Sunday” (because Mong Kok is called the most populated place on earth for a reason) and
- “When you wake up thinking it’s still a T8, but then discover it’s only a T3” (because that’s exactly how we felt after the typhoon in our first year at LPC)
Don’t hesitate to take a few minutes off whatever you’re doing to browse through this wonderful compilation of .GIFs about life in Hong Kong – it’s definitely worth it. For those who can’t get enough of it, feel free to like the blog’s Facebook page or the Hong Kong Memes page. Both are real treats when it comes to Hong Kong humor. Enjoy!
