When I walked around the pier yesterday afternoon, I saw a very entertaining scene at the beach: A big local man with sunglasses sat on a beach chair at the beach, an umbrella installed behind him and a girl with ponytails and red pants dancing next to him. In front of them, a whole camera team had set up itself and many seemingly important people were either screaming directions at the two or into their cell phones. I sat down on a nearby wall and watched the scenario, having immediately recognized its similarity to the first part of the world-hit Gangnam Style. Apparently, the hype is not over yet – at least not in Hong Kong!
I watched the people filming the scene; the girl jumping up and down and swinging her hips and the pseudo-PSY moving his lips to the music – unfortunately he did that even when he didn’t actually have to sing. Next to me stood another big local guy, who equally wore pink shorts, a white shirt and sunglasses, just like the guy on the beach chair – probably his back-up. Along with me, a big group of locals and Filipinos sat on the wall, all watching what was going on at the beach.
It was a great atmosphere, and everybody was moving and dancing to the music and cheering and applauding for the film crew. It’s these small surprises that make me fall in love with Hong Kong over and over again…!
