My Life at Li Po Chun United World College of Hong Kong 2011-2013

Welcoming Yoshi

Yesterday my amount of roommates grew by one. Our new inhabitant is tiny and green, has an incredibly long tail and looks immensely adorable when wiping its eyes or mouth: It is a Chinese striped-neck turtle! Catherine is keeping it on her desk in a glass bowl filled with white pebbles under her lamp. She called the turtle かめよし, Kameyoshi, a Japanese name, but we abbreviate the name to simply Yoshi. Yoshi is not the first pet on campus. Last year there was a mass adoption of gold fish; more people have or had small turtles and two girls even brought their hamsters. The animals are taken care of very well in LPC and can even de-stress their owners: What is more relaxing than playing with the own pet!
