Last year, our last weeks before Christmas in LPC were dominated by the ECE preparations leading up to our European Cultural Evening and we had lots of Christmas spirit on campus. Yesterday we attempted to bring the same atmosphere back on campus and celebrated a scandinavian/north-european 1st Advent. First we all cooked porridge together, with sugar, butter and cinnamon on top and had that for dinner; it tasted just like home!
Later in the evening, we lit the first candle on the advent wreath that our firstyear Lucas from Norwegen/Germany had bought in Mong Kok. While doing so, we sang Norwegian christmas songs, and afterwards slipped over into German, Dutch, English and Spanish songs, too. Eventually we went on to modifying the songs: “Chinese Navidad! Da-da-da-da-dah. Chinese Navidad! Da-da-da-da-dah. Chinese navidad, prospero año y felicidad.” What a wonderful first advent … now if only my parcel from home arrived soon!
